  • LanSchool Air Chrome Extension: 1.1.0.1

Summary – Features & Enhancements

This release includes new product enhancements, ongoing feature development, minor bug fixes, and security and stability improvements.

New Features

  • New class cards – The class cards were redesigned.
  • New class header controls – The class header and menu have been redesigned to provide easier access to a growing number of features. This new menu structure enables us to continue to add features and functions to the product without having to change the user experience. It is a foundational change to the product UI that allows us to continue to grow the feature set without making major UI changes.
  • New student list view – Allows a teacher to toggle between a roll call type list of students and the active thumbnails view.
  • Selectable students – Adds the ability for teachers to select one or more students and then act on them at once.
  • View mode control (tab-only vs. full screen) – Adds the ability to dynamically change how much of a student’s screen is seen on demand. Enables teachers to change from only viewing the active browser tab to full screen mode on the fly, independently of how the Admin has configured their environment.
  • Student browser tab list view and controls – Allows teachers to see the browser tabs a student has open and gives teachers the ability to close any tab.
  • Add to Allow or Block list – Enables teachers to select website addresses that students visit and then add them to the Limit Web Allow or Block lists.
  • ADA/508 Compliance – Support for users with disabilities via keyboard navigation. This is a first pass at adding this capability. Work on accessibility improvements is
  • Better communication method for notifying teachers when a student is moved to another class.

Enhancements and Bug Fixes

  • Added the ability for a teacher to remove a class while it is live. Previously, if a teacher had a live class running with blank screen enabled, and then removed the class without first ending the class, student machines remained in blank screen mode until either sign out or power off.
  • Added the ability to display a blocked page’s URL when using a whitelist. Many sites opened from a school portal use SSO or other authentication redirects. Such redirects are blocked because a teacher doesn’t know all the pages to whitelist. When a whitelist is being used for Limit Web, the external blocking page now displays which page was blocked. This allows teachers to more easily create whitelists.
  • Resolved an issue where the console would not automatically recover when entering an active class if the browser was shut down and reopened.
  • Resolved an issue where notifications that a student had raised a hand or sent a message did not automatically clearif the student’s machine went to sleep.
  • Resolved an issue where student names displayed as their email addresses in manually created classes.
  • Resolved several issues related to tooltips displaying correctly.
  • Resolved several Clever-related issues.
  • Updated Limit Web blocking webpage to use generic messaging.
  • Resolved an issue where students showed as offline with no thumbnails in the teacher console when set to full screen sharing mode after a teacher viewed a student’s details.
  • Resolved an issue where an individual student’s Limit Web settings did not update when a teacher made changes in settings without having to first disable/enable Limit Web.
  • Resolved an issue where Limit Web and blank screen settings could become out of sync with student devices if the teacher lost Internet connectivity and then reconnected.
  • Resolved an issue where teachers using Clever for class rosters were not seeing the Send Feedback option.
  • Resolved an issue where students could bypass the teacher’s Limit Web settings by killing the browser extension using Task M Although the extension re-spawned immediately, we were not re-checking for the teacher’s selected Limit Web settings, and therefore those settings were not enforced. We now enforce Limit Web settings even after a restart.
  • Resolved an issue where Google Docs was not always accessible even when added to the allowed website list.

Component Versions

LanSchool Air Server: 1.04
LanSchool Air for Chromebooks: 1.0.0.106
LanSchool Air Chrome Extension: 1.0.0.8

Summary – Features & Enhancements

This release includes substantial stability, usability, and security updates. It features an important security update that now ensures data sent between Instructor and Student is more secure. We believe this substantially improves data privacy and security.

This release also adds the ability to perform a Google Classroom “Sync Now” as a background operation instead of having to wait until the sync is complete. We believe this is an improvement in product usability.

Important Note (Please Read):

With this release it is required that the new, more secure, LanSchool Air Student Agent be installed on all Chromebooks for the service to work properly. In most

cases the easiest method to ensure the updated agent is installed is to simply log off and log back onto Student Chromebook devices.

In most cart deployments where students are logging off and onto Chromebooks throughout the day this should not present a problem and the new agent should be installed seamlessly. However, in one-to-one deployments it may be necessary to instruct students to logoff and log back onto their devices.

Additional enhancements and bug fixes include:

  • Changed the way website push works so that now a new website is opened in a new tab instead of replacing the Student’s active tab
  • Resolved an issue when pulling a student into a second class where the Instructor in the first class could still affect the student’s machine with Blank Screen and Limit Web. Now when a student moves to another class the first Instructor’s actions do not affect the student.
  • Resolved an issue where disconnected Students were not showing as disconnected
  • Fixed an issue where
limitweb was not being disabled correctly when a class session ended
  • Fixed an issue where “End Class” was not always ending the class correctly
  • Fixed an issue where the timer for Google Classroom sync would start prior to the Instructor allowing LanSchool Air to sync with Google Classroom.
  • Fixed an issue where the Class Roster was not updating without a browser refresh
  • Fixed an issue where the Chromebook Student could occasionally get stuck on Blank Screen
  • Fixed an Internet Explorer issue where an Instructor refreshing their browser during a Blank Screen session could force the Students to remain in the blank screen mode even after the Instructor attempts to turn Blank Screen off.
  • Fixed an issue where the Instructor Console running in either Chrome or Firefox on a MacBook Air could not send Class Chats to students
  • Implemented end-to-end socket signing
  • Fixed numerous UI and usability issues
